“No pain, no gain” used to be the buzz word for fitness lovers for a long time. However, things are changing in fitness space, and trends like “soft living fitness” is taking over.

Motivation warcries like sweat it out, push harder, light weight baby, one last rep, were the ones used more often associated with fitness stories.

This entire narration is now being challenged by the concept, “Soft living fitness’.

The new concept is more about low intensity, consistent efforts, instead of pushing upto failure.

While, many of the hardcore fitness enthusiasts are finding their rigorous fitness regime meaningful, others have opted for soft living fitness.

Soft living fitness is gleefully adopted by the individuals who want to stay fit, but overall mental peace is more important to them.

They want to stay fit, but at the same time, don’t want to fit in everything in and around it in their lives.

Soft living fitness believes that exercise must not be treated as punishment and should be followed as a form of self-care.

Focus of soft living fitness is on enjoyment, consistency and sustainability. Let’s understand this concept in details.

What Is Soft Living Fitness?

Soft living fitness is an approach that gives precedence to balance and listening to the body.

The whole and sole focus is on prioritising feel good about exercising and body, instead of going all out intensively.

The philosophy promotes exercise choices that targets overall wellness of the body. Huge weights or max out reps aren’t the motivations anymore.

Some examples of soft living fitness exercises are;

  • Walking in nature
  • Mild yoga sessions
  • Swimming
  • Pilates
  • Cycling (within comfortable pace)
  • Stretching routines
  • Dance based workouts

Whole emphasis of soft living fitness is around maintaining an active lifestyle. Maximum burnout or targeting specific body shape is never the concern.

Why Is the Trend Becoming Popular?

Several factors work behind popularity of soft living fitness.

Firstly, we need to understand that many people start their fitness journey, but give up to the rigours and discipline required.

Soft living fitness approach let them have their liberty in choice of activity and intensity. Hence, this approach is milder and doesn’t need a hardcore fitness approach.

Secondly, growing influence of overall mental wellness is as important. Off late many people have realised that mental wellness is more important than having taxing exercise routines.

Overall active lifestyle is more important than having a chiselled 3D chest, or veinous arms or huge legs. So, this psychological shift is another factor behind success of soft living fitness.

Social media FOMO is another big reason behind popularity of soft living fitness. Earlier, fitness influencers were focusing their content on gruelling workouts or discipline diets.

Now, focus has shifted to balanced lifestyle and mental peace. Therefore, the messaging now resonates with a wider audience.

The Benefits of a Gentler Fitness Approach

The biggest advantage of new age soft living fitness approach is sustainability. The disciplined and rigorous demands of exercise programs have taken a back seat.

Easier workout routines look seamless and incorporate in the daily lifestyle of people, hence offers long term sustainability.

Hardcore exercising increases chances of injuries, while milder exercise routine bring that possibilities down by quite a margin.

Risk of injuries can’t be totally ruled out in soft living approach, but one can’t argue with the fact that possibilities are lesser.

Most important factor for me is the elevated mental health. When exercise programs aren’t exhaustive anymore, people can enjoy it, rather fighting it.

Does Soft Living Mean Avoiding Challenges?

Not at all. That’s not the approach. You still don’t have to avoid your fitness goals; however, the approach gets compassionate.

One need to understand the limitations of their body. The intensity of exercise should still challenge you, but it shouldn’t leave you exhausted.

You still can think of strength building, cardiovascular health, flexibility, all while giving importance to your body’s limits.

Conclusion

As more people are now inclining to mental wellbeing, future of soft living fitness is likely to grow in next few years.

But like we have seen already; trends are never constant. Trends will keep changing.

However, due to ease of exercise program and sustainability, soft living fitness is likely to enjoy a larger fan following.

As more people are resonating with the trend, it is highly anticipated that it is expected to remain popular for some time now.
